Osip Mandelstam's Octaves at Calque
Read Ilya Bernstein’s translations of Osip Mandelstam on Calque Magazine. Mandelstam is an astonishingly immense poet who, were it less immodest, I would claim as an influence. Bernstein’s translations are the best I’ve read since James Green’s, and possibly better (from a non-Russian reader’s perspective). And Calque Magazine largely merits attention in its own right.
Ilya Bernstein and others have published a volume of New Translations of Mandelstam work for the excellent Ugly Duckling Presse.
