More Nonsense Poems in French: Encore des poèmes nonsensiques en français
In response to my nonsense poem on Rewords, my friend Corinne Noirot wrote:
“A beauty. One ancestor:
Poème en langue inconnue
Cerdis zerom deronty toulpinye,
Purois harlins linor orifieux,
Tictic falo mien estolieux,
Eulfiditons lafar relonglotye.
Gerefeluz tourdom redassinye;
Ervidion tecar doludrieux,
Gesdoliou nerset bacincieux,
Arlas destol osart lurafirie.
Tast derurly tast qu’ent derontrian,
Tast deportulast fal min adian,
Tast tast causus renula dulpissoitre,
Ladimirail reledra survioux,
C’est mon secret ma Mignonne aux yeux doux,
Qu’autre que toy ne sauroit reconnoistre.

C’est ainsi qu’a répondu mon amie Corinne Noirot à propos de mon poème nonsensique sur Rewords. Je lui réponds à mon tour, with this other gem of the genre by the mysterious Renée Dunan, published in the Belgian journal Ca ira! (no. 18, May 1918). (Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce the calligrammatic typography of the journal publication.) This poem is composed mostly or entirely of real words – very rare ones, and is perhaps a rewriting of some unknown text (avis aux chercheurs et aux curieux!):
Convexités (Sonnet lépreux)
Coquin!
Que la macle, opte
Tricuspide, orcellant le copte,
Si j’engaine un moufle au bleu lambrequin.
Tenant sinistre une ante ogive, le trusquin
Enneapyle – à moins qu’en l’ove borgne – adopte,
Osculant l’épigie au barathre panopte
Quintal. Mais Clarine en lambourde de quint.
Candaule triparti perle, la sizygie
Tôt, Luperque entendu meurt, Lygie
Au viédase informe sourit.
Tumultuant! vexille
Quand, le psylle
Barrit.
Quatrain pour cymbalum et petit biniou
guindant, rustre au pont conifère,
Pouille ectype l’hurluberlu.
Mais, cippe endenté, tard velu
Tierce la bretesse orle, à faire.
Morale
Fibre l’exergue Thor palus.

I like convexites! Something like this dating from 1918 could be referencing some regional language argot, yes? you can find translation dictionaries here http://www.lexilogos.com/france_carte_dialectes.htm which might give some hint of regional unusual words from old times. – p.
